SYMPOSIUM: MODERNE ZWEI widmet sich der Architektur der Nachkriegsjahrzehnte in Österreich und einer von Respekt getragenen Erhaltung und Weiterentwicklung. Schließlich können schon kleine, aber unbedacht gesetzte Maßnahmen wie Fensteraustausch, Dämmung und Farbgebung große zerstörerische Wirkung auf die Ausgewogenheit von Proportionen, Materialien und Haptik entfalten. Eine anspruchsvolle Herausforderung bilden die verwendeten „modernen“ Baumaterialien wie Stahl, Glas und (Sicht)Beton, neue Konstruktionen wie die Skelettbauweise, baustrukturelle Eigenheiten und die Energiekenndaten.

Die sensible Auseinandersetzung mit den baulichen Besonderheiten, die originale Bausubstanz und die räumlich-strukturellen Qualitäten sollten den Ausgangspunkt für eventuelle Veränderungen bilden. Darum bemühte sich bei der Umnutzung von Anton Schweighofers Stadt des Kindes auch die Architekten-ARGE, bevor die Bauträger die Abrissbagger still und heimlich auffahren ließen.
Das Symposium MODERNE ZWEI Baukultur 1948 - 1984 findet am Freitag 24. Oktober 2008 in der Kammer Arch+Ing: Gebirgsjägerplatz 10 in der Stadt Salzburg statt. U.a. wird BDA-Präsidentin Barbara Neubauer ein Grundsatz-Statement zu jungen Baudenkmälern bis in die 1980er Jahre in Österreich abgeben.

8.Juli.2008 _ Docomomo International has been officially granted the status of “ONG with operational relationship with UNESCO,” effective as of as of March 21, 2008. This status follows a long candidacy process initiated in 2004. From today onwards, the legal mention “ONG with official operational relation with UNESCO” can be used on all documents concerning or mentioning Docomomo International.

The relationship between UNESCO and Docomomo International is a strong asset for Docomomo. It will allow us to exchange information on heritage issues with the WHC, be invited to participate in collective consultations, attend meetings of the ONG-UNESCO Liaison Committee and have access to some of the financial procedures for cooperation.

Together with the Europa Nostra Awards and the short-listing of the Docomomo Journal for the CICA Awards, the UNESCO agreement marks another 2008 achievement advancing Docomomo’s visibility and institutional recognition for its work in the fields of documentation and conservation on sites and buildings of the modern movement.
